Queer Theory in Horror: A Zine (2019 - 2020)

Part of my Senior exit gallery involved a project that is very personal to me. As an openly transgender individual, the history of queer people is one that deserves to be remembered. Horror is a genre that has always been safe for queer people in general, being a space where the maligned, the undesirable, the gross, the terrifying all belong. In times where anyone identifying as LGBTQ+ were demonized and threatened for their "anti-Christian" or "lawless" lifestyles, horror as a genre was where those ideas could be expressed safely. This zine is a brief introduction to this idea, with three fully-illustrated examples of horror as seen from a queer lens.
